FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT JOY, PART 2 OF NINE

Fruit of the Spirit- Joy

 What is Joy?

A deeper look. Part 2 of 9
BY MATTHEW CORTINAS

In English, joy has many synonyms, such as happiness, pleasure, gladness and delight. But the meaning the world places on these words does not necessarily reflect what the Bible means. The Greek translation ‘simcha’ gives a more direct meaning of “happiness in the fullest sense.” or Abiding Joy!

Selfish happiness vs. Godly joy Often today people and sometimes Christians even, think that pursuing the things of this world, equals searching to find what will make them happy. But in doing that (as long as no one gets hurt), can’t be wrong? Why do you think this IS WRONG? For example, if we think it makes us happy to put money (or the pursuit of it) above all else, or fudge a little on our taxes to get a bigger return, or criticize or bully others to make ourselves feel better, These aren't the best of examples and I’m sure you all can possibly think of many others, but does that mean we should do those things in the pursuit of happiness or Joy?
No!

The Bible says: in Proverbs 21:15… 15 It is joy to the just to do judgment: but destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity.

The joy talked about as a fruit of the Spirit in Galatians 5:22 is the positive and cheerful outlook of a person who has been called by God and understands how beneficial it is to follow God’s example.

Breaking God’s law never produces real, lasting joy. Selfishly seeking our own pleasure is not the way to achieve real joy either. Real joy is a gift from God, and it is something He wants us to give to others unselfishly. We can have joy from God even when facing things that would naturally make us unhappy, such as adversities.   James 1:2-4 says, Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

But thankfully the Bible promises us that in the long run, joy, and even happiness and pleasure will all align perfectly in His presence ...  Joy is the realization that God loves us and wants to give good things to His children—those who have repented, been baptized and have received His Holy Spirit.

Psalm 67:4
“Oh, let the nations be glad and sing for joy! For You shall judge the people righteously, and govern the nations on earth”. *

What is Godly joy? Joy is the response of Christians to the fact that we have been given a precious truth, a gift and understanding of a way of life that brings fulfillment in God—now and forever.

Why do you think God want us to demonstrate joy? As we’ve seen, joy that is gained through selfish desires and activities only brings a superficial high or temporary enjoyment. Yet there is another joy that comes through the Holy Spirit and following God’s way of life that brings real contentment and true happiness.

God wants us to have Joy in order to prove to the world that He is the One who brings happiness!

Also, when we demonstrate joy, we are actively showing where our priorities are. Notice the parable of the treasure in a field:

Matthew 13:44 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and hid; and for joy over it he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field” * think about this... The joy over the coming Kingdom and what God has revealed makes everything else in life seem less important. Grouchy, ungrateful, negative and angry Christians don’t exactly demonstrate the truth about the Kingdom of God—something so wonderful that nothing else should take priority over it. It is something to rejoice about every day, all day: at work, at home, while driving, while playing—everywhere. But why demonstrate joy? If we truly believe what God has told us in His Word, then we have plenty to rejoice about. There will be tough times in this life (deaths of loved ones or life changes, etc.), but even in those times of sorrow and weeping, the underlying joy of God’s plan for us must reign in our hearts and actions. Easier said than done, right?

An example; The apostle John gives us an example of joy that should be present in our life always. In his letter to Gaius, an elder he greatly admired, he said in the following verse: “

3 John 1 :3-4 For I rejoiced greatly when the brothers came and testified to your truth, as indeed you are walking in the truth. I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.

John was exceedingly cheerful and happy that people he had ministered to were continuing to walk in the truth. He was also joyful because he knew as long as they walked in the truth, they would also have happiness and joy—for eternity.

John’s example explains where joy comes from and why it’s important. Joy comes from staying true to God’s teachings, and it’s important because it gives others joy and shows a grateful response to what we’ve been given.

An example to avoid Christ mentions joy in His parable of the sower and the seed:

Matthew 13: 20-21 As for what was sown on rocky ground, this is the one who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy, yet he has no root in himself, but endures for a while, and when tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately he falls away. * This is only temporary joy, not real, lasting joy. The person in the stony places may have had sincere joy at the beginning, but he soon focused on trials and let that joy fade away. Our joy, excitement and happiness in God must always be growing and expanding by staying close to Him and allowing the Holy Spirit to work in our lives.

Nehemiah 8:10 Then he said to them, "Go your way. Eat the fat and drink sweet wine and send portions to anyone who has nothing ready, for this day is holy to our Lord. And do not be grieved, for the joy of the Lord is your strength." * Faith is the victory that overcomes the world, and the joy of the Lord is our strength. Adverse circumstances, instead of hindering our faith, can actually enhance our joy. Paul and Silas knew adversity as they sat with their feet in the stocks in a Philippian jail cell. Their legal rights had been violated. They had been arrested without cause and beaten without a trial. At midnight, since they couldn’t sleep, they sang—loudly—the praises of the Lord they were serving!

Acts 16:25-26 About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them, and suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken. And immediately all the doors were opened, and everyone's bonds were unfastened. * And as you can see Paul and Silas reveling in the Joy of the Lord brought a miracle!

The joy of the Lord may defy understanding to ones who does not possess it. But, for the believer in Christ, the joy of the Lord comes as naturally as grapes on a vine. As we abide in

Christ, the True Vine, we the branches are full of His strength and vitality, and the fruit we produce, including joy, is ALL His (God’s) doing!!
END

Heavenly Father, what a comfort to read and study your word, giving us examples of those, who despite the difficulties and dangers that they were called upon to face, were able to rejoice in the Lord and trust in Your never-failing faithfulness. We pray that like them we too may receive Your abiding joy and discover like them… that the joy of the Lord is our strength and that the peace that comes from You is an abiding peace that enables us to overcome all difficulties of life. We ask this in Jesus’ name! AMEN!

Fruit of the Spirit, Love, part 1 of 9

Fruit of the Spirit, LOVE
PART 1 OF 9

By: Matthew Cortinas

LOVE

 Galatians 5:22-23

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.

*

Paul’s underlying theme of the letters to the Galatians, is the focus on the Grace of  God!! this was supplied to us by the crucifixion, death, and glorious resurrection of  our Lord Jesus Christ!

The Fruit of the Spirit in our lives is evidence of the sanctifying presence of the Holy Spirit. He works in us..Changing us, changing our character, our thoughts, actions, motives, speech and

ultimately our attitude towards sin!  It is referred to in the singular (Fruit. not Fruits)but it shows the many facets of the nature of God. You only need to look at the life of Jesus for the perfect example of the Fruit at work!

The Holy Spirit should replace our worldly ways, habits, and attitudes. It will produce the qualities of God! As seen in Gal. 5:22-23 the fruit is listed and the first on the list is considered the MOST important…

LOVE

1 Corinthians 13:4-13

Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with

the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for

knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when the perfect

comes, the partial will pass away. When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways. For now we see in a

mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known. So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

*

This Love is the “AGAPE” love of God. This word is derived from the Greek.Agape is selfless, sacrificial, unconditional love. Agape perfectly describes the kind of love Jesus Christ has for his

Father and for his followers. Agape is the term that defines God's immeasurable, ongoing, outgoing, self-sacrificing concern for lost and fallen people. it is without condition, to those who are undeserving, and it does not rely on any value or worth in the person being loved!. A simple way to summarize agape is God's divine love!

Now, imagine if Christ, just before the cross, went to the garden and thought; I hate this feeling,

I don’t feel like doing this, so I will base my decision upon what I feel.(“mmm..I think I’ll pass on this one”)  If that had happened, we’d all be hopelessly doomed to hell.  The good news of

course is that Jesus resisted and fought back His feelings and even though He prayed three

times to have this pass, He was more interested in doing the will of the Father than what He felt like doing…thankfully.  Jesus displayed His love for His Father & His will  by going to the cross

and dying for sinners and those of us whom were still His enemies  and desperately wicked. So

I’m telling you all that love is not dependent upon feelings and emotions because feelings are one of the shallowest and most unreliable of all human emotions.  Instead we must emphasize that love is a choice more than a feeling because feelings are fleeting, while love is displayed in actions.

The bottom line is that love is what a person chooses to do, not what a person chooses to feel.

John 3:16

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

*

So,God so loved the world because why? Because He felt like it?  Yes! He does love us but that love required action and that included the supreme sacrifice of His only Son’s life.   That was the ultimate love in action. This type of love is not of human origin.

Romans 5:10

For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life.

For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. To die for an enemy is not what humans do.  That is a God-type of love.  Jesus died for us while we were still His enemies and while we were sinners.  He loved us first.  He took the

initiative.  We didn’t.  Agape love is the kind of love that God had for us, while we were still dead in our sins.  A love that is poured out for us like Jesus’ blood was poured out for sinners.  End.

Dear heavenly Father, thank You for Your deep love towards me and thank You for sending

Your only begotten Son, my Saviour Jesus Christ to suffer on the cross for my sake,  Lord I know that I do not deserve Your love and yet You have showered unconditional love and grace

towards me through Christ – for which I praise and thank You. AMEN

THE HOLY SPIRIT IN YOU

THE HOLY SPIRIT IN YOU

Believers today have totally under estimated the power of the Holy Spirit. If you are wondering how you can be sure of that, it is quite simple

If we truly understood and believed what the bible tells us about Him we would not ever worry about anything.

All that hell has to offer could come against us and we wouldn’t fear.

1 John 4:4King James Version (KJV)

Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

Who are they referring to in this verse? It is not referring to God, because God is in heaven. It is not referring to Jesus because he is sitting at the right hand side of God in heaven.

John is referring to the Holy Spirit here. The he is the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is omnipresent, meaning he can be at all places at all times.

The greater one, the comforter that lives within the believer has given us all the wisdom, strength, power and provision that we need.

Right now you may think you could never have that kind of boldness.

What would you do if Jesus appeared to you today and linked His arm in yours and told you that from now on He would be physically present with you in every situation?

If you became sick, he would lay his had on you and heal you.
If you ran short of money, he would pray and multiply your resources
Any problem you encountered that you did not know what to do, he would tell you how to handle it.

Under those circumstances you would be very bold and confident. Any time you ran into trouble, you would see Jesus standing next to you … suddenly you would have great courage.

The fact is we don’t have the advantage of Jesus physically walking with us. We do have something better, Jesus said so himself.

John 14:12-21King James Version (KJV)

12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.
15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.
16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
19 Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also.
20 At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.
21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.

When the Holy Spirit moves on a situation, He does it with Wisdom and understanding so vast that it staggers the Human Mind.

At sometime in your life you might have asked, then why hasn’t he helped me before? Heaven knows I’ve needed it.

He has been waiting for you to give Him something to work with. He has been waiting there inside of you all this time, waiting for you to just speak the word of God in faith.

That has been His roll since the beginning and when you made Jesus the Lord of your life, the Holy Spirit connected you to the power of God.

That’s His job. He moves on Gods word and delivers the power necessary to cause that word to manifest in the earth.

That’s what he did at creation, and that is what he is commissioned to do for you.

Remember He is your helper, not your dominator. If you are walking around talking
doubt and unbelief, he is severely limited in what He can do for your life.

You need to develop and awareness of the reality of the Holy Spirit within you. Stop meditating on the problem that you are facing and start meditation on the power of the one inside you who is able to solve the problem.

Ephesians 3:20King James Version (KJV)

20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,

It is speaking about the power of the Holy Spirit being able to do all things above what we ask or think. According to the power you have within you.

You need to start building your faith in that power instead of always gazing toward Heaven saying God why don’t you help me.

Look at yourself in the mirror and say; the spirit of God lives inside of me, today and I expect Him to do wise, wonderful, amazing and miraculous things through me.

Fruit of the Spirit- Goodness… A deeper look

Fruit of the Spirit- Goodness… A deeper look

pt. 6 of 9

At this point in our study on "the fruit of the Spirit", we are     examining those graces which relate especially to how we relate with    our fellow man…

Longsuffering is defined as "that quality of self-restraint in the       face of provocation which does not hastily retaliate or promptly punish." in essence, patients. Kindness is defined as "the sympathetic sweetness of  temper which puts others at their ease, and  avoids causing pain”   And now we come to Goodness

This particular fruit is perhaps the most difficult to define, because it is so general in nature. We may say things like “he's a good guy/gal” or “we had a good time today” But good in what way? Exactly what does that mean? The context you use it in defines the tense .The problem with its use in Galatians 5, is that there is little in       the context to guide us.

Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. *

Goodness is virtue and holiness in action. It results in a life characterized by deeds motivated by righteousness and a desire to be a blessing. It's a moral characteristic of a Spirit-filled person. The Greek word translated “goodness,” agathosune, (Uh-gath-o-soon) is defined as "uprightness of heart and life." Agathosune is goodness for the benefit of others, not goodness simply for the sake of being virtuous.

Someone with agathosune will selflessly act on behalf of others. Confronting someone about a sin in their life demonstrates goodness. So, do giving to the poor, providing for one’s children, visiting the sick, volunteering to clean up after a disaster, and praying for an enemy. Expressions of goodness are as varied as the Spirit is creative...And He does get creative!!

Remember, Goodness is not a quality we can manufacture on our own.

James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. *

This certainly includes a life characterized by goodness. In letting the Holy Spirit control us, we are blessed with the fruit of goodness. As others see our good works, they will praise our Father in heaven.

Matthew 5:16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. *

Goodness is the fruit that virtue and the rest of characters combine to produce endearment. It is the character that makes people liked and even lovable by others. It is what is attractive and luring, that catches people's attention and respect. This is the main element that attracts people to you and finds and keeps friends. It builds marriages and shows God's love to others around us. It is virtue in action; it is being a role model and putting into practice excellence in all that we do to God and others. Goodness enables us to be liked and enjoyed, even if an enemy comes against us.

Proverbs 25:21-22 If your enemy is hungry, give him bread to eat, and if he is thirsty, give him water to drink, for you will heap burning coals on his head, and the Lord will reward you. *

It is the taste of what is to come, the way we are to be to one another at all times.

Psalm 34:8 Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him! *  Psalm 119:103 How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth! *

This is our expression of worship and gratitude to Christ played out in our lives, so we can enjoy Him and He can enjoy us, and so that life can be more enjoyable for all.

Why are we to be good? Because God is good to us!!

Psalm 86:5 For you, O Lord, are good and forgiving, abounding in steadfast love to all who call upon you.

Psalm 145:4-13 One generation shall commend your works to another, and shall declare your mighty acts. On the glorious splendor of your majesty, and on your wondrous works, I will
meditate. They shall speak of the might of your awesome deeds, and I will declare your greatness. They shall pour forth the fame of your abundant goodness and shall sing aloud of your righteousness. The Lord is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. The Lord is good to all, and his mercy is over all that he has made. All your works shall give thanks to you, O Lord, and all your saints shall bless you! They shall speak of the glory of your kingdom and tell of your power, to make known to the children of man your mighty deeds, and the glorious splendor of your kingdom. Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and your dominion endures throughout all generations. [The Lord is faithful in all his words and kind in all his works.] *   Goodness is the application of love to others, whereas in the opposite of pride is a love... the only love we have and we often use it for only ourselves!

Proverbs 16:8 Better is a little with righteousness than great revenues with injustice.

Proverbs 29:23 One's pride will bring him low, but he who is lowly in spirit will obtain honor. * Being good will help us be patient, kind, understanding and forgiving to others. It will be the fruit that helps us build each other up, build His Church, reach His community and restore relationships and seek the best in all we do. It is excellence in action! It is what builds great societies and its absence causes those same societies to collapse into the dust!!

Remember; the fruits and character cost dearly, they are not cheap by and from the One who bought them for us, for our betterment and for His glory. We must not take for granted what Cost Him so much!

 Prayer:

Almighty God, every good thing comes from you. Fill our hearts with love for You, and for others! increase our faith, and by Your constant care protect the good you have given us. Help it to grow and flourish, help us to be the example you gave! AMEN

GIFT OF GRACE

GIFT OF GRACE
by: Matthew Cortinas
lesson for  July 14, 2017

One of the most wonderful, yet least understood principles in the Bible is the wonderful gift of God’s grace. The gospel of grace is so simple that even a child can understand it when it is presented properly. In this Bible study about God’s grace we will see how Paul, being chosen by God to deliver the gospel of grace to the Gentiles, summed it up best in just a few verses as he addressed the Church at Corinth:

1 Corinthians 15:3-4 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures

To understand God’s grace, we must go back in time to see how this mystery was revealed.

The Old Testament - Before Grace

When God made man, he put him in a beautiful place called the Garden of Eden:

Genesis 2:8 And the Lord God planted a garden in Eden, in the east, and there he put the man whom he had formed.

God put man there to live and work and take care of the land. Then God gave man only one rule,

Genesis 2:16-17    “You may surely eat of every tree of the garden, but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die."

The man, whose name was Adam told this rule to his wife, Eve. They both knew they were not allowed to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, or they would die. Then one day a serpent approached Eve and convinced her that God did not mean what He said. Now the serpent was craftier than any other beast of the field that the Lord God had made.  So, Eve ate of the forbidden tree and then she gave the fruit to her husband, and he ate too. We see how this went down in Genesis 3:1-7

Genesis 3:1-7 He said to the woman, “Did God actually say, ‘You shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?" 2 And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat of the fruit of the trees in the garden, 3 but God said, ‘You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree that is in the midst of the garden, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.’" 4 But the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. 5 For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil." 6 So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate. 7 Then the

eyes of both were opened, and they knew that they were naked. And they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves loincloths.

The penalty for doing what God told Adam and Eve not to do is recorded in:
Genesis 3:8-24
8 And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. 9 But the Lord God called to the man and said to him, “Where are you?" 10 And he said, “I heard the sound of you in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked, and I hid myself." 11 He said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten of the tree of which I commanded you not to eat?" 12 The man said, “The woman whom you gave to be with me, she gave me fruit of the tree, and I ate." 13 Then the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this that you have done?" The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate."14 The Lord God said to the serpent,“Because you have done this, cursed are you above all livestock and above all beasts of the field;on your belly you shall go,and dust you shall eat all the days of your life.15 I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring;he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel."16 To the woman he said,“I will surely multiply your pain in childbearing;in pain you shall bring forth children.Your desire shall be for your husband, and he shall rule over you."17 And to Adam he said,“Because you have listened to the voice of your wife and have eaten of the tree of which I commanded you,‘You shall not eat of it,’cursed is the ground because of you;in pain you shall eat of it all the days of your life;18 thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you;and you shall eat the plants of the field.19 By the sweat of your face you shall eat bread, till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken;for you are dust, and to dust you shall return. 20 The man called his wife’s name Eve, because she was the mother of all living. 21 And the Lord God made for Adam and for his wife garments of skins and clothed them. 22 Then the Lord God said, “Behold, the man has become like one of us in knowing good and evil. Now, lest he reach out his hand and take also of the tree of life and eat, and live forever—" 23 therefore the Lord God sent him out from the garden of Eden to work the ground from which he was taken. 24 He drove out the man, and at the east of the garden of Eden he placed the cherubim and a flaming sword that turned every way to guard the way to the tree of life.

We call this disobedience to God’s law (rule) sin. Take a look at all that came to be because of sin:

1.Because of sin the serpent was “cursed above all livestock" and caused to go on his belly and eat the dust of the earth. 2.Because of the sin of man, women have pain in childbirth. 3.Because of Adam listened to Eve and took and ate of the fruit, he must work by the sweat of his brow to harvest food to eat. 4.Because of sin, thorns and thistles grow in among the good food.

5.Because of sin, man dies and the body decays into the dust of the earth after death. 6.Because of sin, these humans and every human after them have been removed from the paradise of the Garden and separated from God.

The New Testament- The Mystery Revealed

The truth of the matter is that every man after Adam is dead in their trespasses and sins. Paul explains this to the Church at Ephesus, as follows in:

Ephesians 2:1-3
And you were dead in the trespasses and sins 2 in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience— 3 among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind.

And Paul goes on to give us great news in:

Ephesians 2:4-10
4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us,  even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ— by grace you have been saved— 6 and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

There was a time, after Adam and Eve first sinned, that God’s law was expanded into more that 600 things that the people could and could not do. The people could not obey these laws and at one point God wiped out all of mankind because they were so evil. He saved only Noah and his family because Noah was righteous in God’s eyes. Even after Noah, man continued to disobey and because God’s chosen people, Israel (the Jewish people), rejected God’s eternal plan of salvation, it was offered to the Gentiles (those who are not Jewish). Paul writes about this in his letter to the Church at Rome:

Romans 11:30-32 For just as you were at one time disobedient to God but now have received mercy because of their disobedience, 31 so they too have now been disobedient in order that by the mercy shown to you they also may now receive mercy. 32 For God has consigned all to disobedience, that he may have mercy on all.

The Offer

This offer from God to all men was made possible by His only begotten Son, Jesus who willingly allowed Himself to be wrongfully crucified so that His blood would pay our sin debt. The debt or payment for sin is death. Because of Adam, all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. But God loves us so much that He gives us something we do not deserve – GRACE.

Grace if offered to all men and women. Look up the following verses to see how much God loves you:  Romans 5:8   But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

John 14:6   Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Acts 4:12   12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

Luke 19:9-10   And Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch as he also is a son of Abraham.

10 For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.

The Gift Accepted

Everyone loves receiving gifts, but for a gift to be yours, you must accept it. When you believe the truth of the gospel, that Jesus died for your sins, was buried according to the Scriptures and was raised again on the third day, according to the Scriptures, you are guaranteed eternal life – you receive the gift. God seals your name in the Lambs Book of Life and leaves His Holy Spirit as the Promise that Jesus will return to redeem you into eternal life with Him and His Father in Heaven. Your death sentence is lifted and you are no longer condemned. Some Bible verses to study about the results of this salvation include:

John 3:18, 36  18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

John 14:27   27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

Romans 8:9   But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

Romans 8:16-17   16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:

17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.

Philippians 4:3    And I intreat thee also, true yokefellow, help those women which laboured with me in the gospel, with Clement also, and with other my fellowlabourers, whose names are in the book of life.

Walk in Grace
Grace does not mean that we can now do things that displease God. Under the Law we saw death and we were bound as a slave to that Law. Under grace we have freedom through the direction of the Holy Spirit. We needed the Law to convince us of our need of a personal Savior. Under grace we need no longer be focused on the “do’s" and “don’ts", when we follow the Spirit we always do what pleases God. Check out these examples of how to walk in grace:

Under the Law we are told “Thou shalt have no other gods before me"; under Grace we are taught that God is spirit and we should worship Him in spirit and in truth. Under the Law we are told “Thou shalt not commit adultery"; under Grace we are taught to be faithful to our spouse as mentioned in Heb 13:4

Hebrews 13:4 Let marriage be had in honor among all, and let the bed be undefiled: for fornicators and adulterers God will judge.

Under the Law we are told “Thou shalt not steal"; under Grace we are taught to steal no more and to work with our own hands so that we may give to those that have need.

Under the Law we are told “Thou shalt not bear false witness"; under Grace we are taught to speak the truth in love! Under the Law we are told “Thou shalt not covet …", under Grace we are taught to be content in every situation.

I think you get the idea. Walking in Grace is to allow the Spirit to discern the right way for you. God loves us and gives us everything that we need to walk in grace and peace. All we need to do is listen to His direction. When we ignore the Spirit, we fall into old habits.  Eternal life is a sure thing, His Word is Truth!! The Bible in Hebrews 6: -19 says that the believer's “hope” is steadfast and as sure as an anchor!

Let no sin have dominion over us, because we are not under law but under Grace

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I declare that I am blessed through your Son Jesus Christ. Thank You for surrounding me with Your favor. I, therefore, expect Your favor and Grace to go before me today.  I thank You Heavenly Father for opening doors for me that neither man nor the Satan can shut. Thank You for blessing the works of my hands as I walk under the covering of your Grace.  May I experience your supernatural increase and blessing in every area of my life. I choose to walk in faith and in victory! In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

A deeper look at the Aaronic Blessing

A deeper look at the Aaronic Blessing
By Gloria Freeman

As I was looking into the Aaronic Blessing. In English, it seemed simple:

It is as follows

The Lord bless thee, and keep thee:

The Lord make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:

The Lord lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.

(Numbers 6:24-26 KJV)

I found the meaning behind the Hebrew words was astounding. Let’s look at the key words and phrases from each verse.

Bless

Barak::  To kneel and present gifts in respect

Keep

Shamar: To keep, watch and guard

Full translation: The Lord kneel and present gifts and watch over you to keep and protect you.

Make His face shine upon thee

Paniym:  in the presence of

‘owr:  To be illuminated

Gracious unto thee

chanan :  a verb that is often paralleled with other Hebrew words meaning healing, help, being lifted up, finding refuge, strength and rescue. From a concrete Hebraic perspective, this verb means to “provide protection.” Where does one run to for protection? The camp, which in Hebrew hanah: a word related to chanah. Psalm 91 shows us where the camp of the Lord is: The Secret Place of the Most High.

Full translation: The Lord illuminate the fullness of His presence to you and bring you to the Secret Place of the Most High.

Lift up

nasa’: be lifted up, carry up, rise up,

Into His presence

paniym: This is the same word from the last verse: In the presence of

Give thee peace

Shalom (Shalowm):  Completeness, wholeness in every way

Full translation: The Lord rise you up into His presence and receive wholeness, completeness.

It is to our best interest to say this blessing as often as we pray… What a beautiful blessing.

God’s Word, how is it Important to Me?

God’s Word, how is it Important to Me?

by: Matthew Cortinas  Lesson for 7:7:2017

The Bible was given to us by God and it is Truth! It is freedom God, the Creator and Ruler of this world and, has given us His Book, the Bible. The Bible is to serve as a guide for our lives. His LIVING VOICE speaking to mankind. To give one of many examples of the Power and Truth of God’s word please turn to:

Genesis 1:3 And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

We are generally familiar with the word "truth," and know what it means today. This word is used in a number of ways in the New Testament. It means in the Greek translation as "genuine" or "real or reality".

John 17:17 Sanctify them in the truth: thy word is truth.

As Jesus talked to his father, (in John 17) he acknowledged God’s Truth! If God said it, it's the Truth! Throughout the Bible, we can see that the Words uttered from the lips of God, created and put in motion absolutely everything that exists!! with this in itself, we must conclude that His Word is the Truth and represents absolute Truth!

Numbers 23:19 God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?

If trusting God involves obeying God’s Word, as it certainly does, then there can be no real discipleship without Bible study. Study of the Bible cannot be an occasional, lazy, or “in my free time” pursuit. It must be a passion of a believer’s life. This is because it is only by the studying of the Word of God that we learn what it is to obey God and follow Jesus. If you want to know God as He speaks to you through the Bible, you should do the following:

Study the Bible daily. Immerse yourself. We should study the Bible at least once each day, of course. With constant study, faith is built in his word. Faith in us, built by God's Truth!

2 Timothy 3 16-17 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

What is important is that we discipline our lives to include regular Bible studies, just as we discipline ourselves to have regular periods for sleep, eating meals, etc. These things are necessary if the body is to be healthy and work is to be done. Sometimes we may miss a meal, but normally we don't. In the same way, we must feed regularly on God’s Word if we are to become and remain spiritually strong.

What happens if we neglect regular Bible reading? We grow indifferent to God and lazy in spirit. We throw ourselves open to temptation and easily fall into sin! Therefore, if we keep the light of God's truth shining brightly ahead of us, then we have a greater chance of avoiding deception.

This is easy to understand because, if we are going to use the Word of God in the right way, we have to believe it. We not only have to believe it, we must trust it. When Jesus says that God's Word is truth, and that we are sanctified by that Word, we need to understand it from the point of view, the perspective, of God: that His Word is pure, genuine, factual, and reality—and all these are contrasted to man's word. Despite having the best of intentions and sincerity, man cannot even begin to come close to ultimate truth of the Word of God.

Think about this!! There is a personal, living, almighty God whose ways and laws are intrinsically right—they are true. Therefore, a person who has God's Spirit and is honest, who is willing to speak the truth and acknowledge it when it is shown to him, and who will use it in everyday, practical situations must eventually become like He...who we model ourselves after.

By reading the word and renewing our minds daily God is making us kings and priests, that is, leaders and teachers of a way of life based on revealed truth. He will not have anyone in His Family who does not embody truth as Jesus did. In other words, we, too, should be Truth in the flesh! However, for this to happen, we must live it to the best of our abilities now. We all fall short and fail in our walk, that is why God provided his Mercy and Grace for us to obtain forgiveness and continue walking in His truth.

Apply His Truth in your life! In secular books, we study to become informed or entertained. In reading the Bible, we study to know God, hear His voice, and be changed by Him as we grow in Holiness. As Christians, we need to allow the Word of God to become a part of us. As we read and reread the word, it will stick in our memories. Making it available to us at all times to reflect on.

When we study a passage, and we find something that pertains to our lives, we must stop and acknowledge it prayerfully. Without regular, personal Bible study and prayer, we are not really walking with Christ as His followers, and we are certainly not obeying His requirement for us to know  Him better!  There is a multitude of blessings waiting for us, we will find them in His living word as we study it, and will learn how to apply those blessings to our lives.

2 Peter 1:21 For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God (and His Truth) as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

Don't forget Prayer! Study the Bible prayerfully. It is impossible to study the Bible devotionally without praying, since we are coming to God in Scripture and must communicate with Him verbally if we do. But although prayer is part of a devotional study of Scripture, I mention prayer only because we so often neglect it. The best way to study the Bible is to begin the study in prayer  remembering to be in awe of God's Word!!

John 8:32 and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

The following is a prayer I use before I study.

Father, I pray my eyes will be opened to see the vision that You have impressed upon my heart, so that the wondrous work of the Word will come alive in me. Open my ears Lord to hear the Truth Your Word is giving to us. Help us, in Christ Jesus, to be still and know that You alone are God. You know me inside out, so search me and take away anything that is not of You. As I strive to see Your grace at work in me. I pray this in the name of Jesus! Amen
