REVELATION
LESSON 15
ARE WE LIVING IN THE END TIMES?
Revelation
10:1-4 10 And I saw another mighty angel come
down from heaven, clothed with a cloud: and a rainbow was upon his head, and
his face was as it were the sun, and his feet as pillars of fire:
2 And he had in his hand a little book
open: and he set his right foot upon the sea, and his left foot on the earth,
3 And cried with a loud voice, as when
a lion roareth: and when he had cried, seven thunders uttered their voices.
4 And when the seven thunders had
uttered their voices, I was about to write: and I heard a voice from heaven
saying unto me, Seal up those things which the seven thunders uttered, and
write them not.
John sees another mighty angel as he did in chapter 5:2. The purpose
of this angel is clear. His identity we do not know. He will announce the final
judgements on earth. We also know that he will have great authority.
He will be allowed to stand in the presence of God and will speak
for God. He will probably be an archangel, who will come down from Heaven possibly
wearing some type of garment. First this mighty angel will be clothed in a
cloud. In the bible clouds have been associated with at least two things, the
presence of God and the return of Jesus.
We can only speculate about the rainbow on the mighty angel’s
head. It could possibly be God’s grace; his face will shine like the sun. Probably
from being in the presence of the almighty God, just as Moses’ face shone on Mount
Sinai.
This mighty angels feet will be “as” pillars of fire. His feet
will represent God’s plan to take control of the earth through divine judgment.
Verse 2. This angel will have a small book in his hand. While he
is holding it he will plant his right foot on the sea and his left foot on dry
land as he claims it in the name of his King. The earth belongs to God.
The bible in chapter 13 says the false prophet comes up out of the
earth and the antichrist will come up out of the sea, God says in his word they
will deal with all creation not just a limited part as did the seal and trumpet
judgments. Gods truth will prevail.
Verse 3. When this mighty angel described in verse two speaks with
a loud voice as a lion’s roar, seven thunders are audible, or very loud. Seven thunders
is a symbol of the voice of God. He will make a strong statement after his
angel speaks. Remember that thunder is a symbol of Gods wrath, what he utters
will probably be followed up with divine judgment.
God will make a unique remark in his voice of thunder “like” that
even John will be able to hear and understand, because he will start to write
it down. No one knows why John was prevented from revealing more. He knows much
more than he is allowed to reveal. This proclamation or announcement in the
entire book of revelation is the only one ordered to be sealed up.
Throughout history people have wanted to know what would happen in
the future. God reveals some of it in this book that John was writing. John was
stopped from revealing certain parts of his vision. Jesus told his disciples
that the time of the end is known by only one, God.
God has revealed all that we need to know to live for Him. In our
desire to be ready for the end we must focus more on the life we are living
today. Rather than worrying about the last days. Matthew 6:33 says ‘seek ye
first the kingdom of God and His righteousness’, by doing this we will be less
likely to worry about the future. We don’t have to know everything to trust God
or be saved.
Set before us are blood, tears and famine. Heartache and
heartbreak, killing, misery, hail, fire, burning mountains, demon
monstrosities, men begging to die and being unable to do so. Surely what John
was forbidden to write must have been beyond human imagination or understanding.
The judgments of the future is something you don’t want any part
of. It is almost unimaginable the things that are to come. This is Gods word
and he says these things will come.
If you haven’t made Jesus the Lord of your life and accepted Him
as your Savior, there is not better time than right now. By doing so you will
be in heaven when all this tribulation occurs.
