Weakness of the Flesh

Weakness of the Flesh

Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things.

Romans 8: 4-5   4 That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.

Those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit, think about things that please the spirit.

The problem a lot of Christians are having today is called lasciviousness… it means tending to excite lustful desires.

Romans 7:23    23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.

Our mind is a battle field. If you are not living a life of peace, you are living under dictates of the flesh.  We need you learn not to yield to the flesh. Time spent with the spirit in Gods word will help us to control the carnal mind.

The Holy Spirit takes hold with us against the weakness of the flesh. Lasciviousness is: pressure on the flesh to dominate to the point it can boldly say “no one restrains me”. We must endeavor to put an end to lustful desires. Satins purpose in Lasciviousness is to use it to alienate us from having a life with God.

Satan wants us to be completely ineffective in the Body of Christ. If he can find a weak spot or point of entry, there will be ineffectiveness. We can’t live as the world does and be effective in God’s work. As long as we live in these natural bodies we will always fight with the flesh.

Romans 7:18-25    18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.

19 For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.

20 Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.

21 I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.

22 For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:

23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.

24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?

25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.

This is what Paul is saying:

I Know I am rotten through and through, no matter which way I turn, and I can’t make myself do right.

I want to but can’t

V 19 when I want to do good I don’t

V 20 But if I am doing what I don’t want to do I am not really the one doing it… the sin within me is doing it.

V 21 the fact of life is that when I want to do what is right, I inevitably do what is wrong…

V 22 I love God’s law with all my heart.

V 23 But there is another law at work within me, that is at war with my mind… this law wins the fight and makes me a slave to sin, which is within me.

V 24 Who will free me from this life of sin?

V 25 The answer is Jesus Christ Our Lord. Now you see how it is in my mind

I really want to obey Gods laws but because of my sinful nature, I am a slave to sin.

Romans 8: 1-4    There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.

3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:

4 That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

Continue to Follow Jesus and stay in the Word.
